Arthurian Legend

"Once back here I got to thinking - 'how do I get out of this?' Perhaps the really haunting spectre is that I would have to turn my back on the lake, and the prospect of the sword." Alan Clark, Diaries - 19th May 1999

New Labour do not do housing maintenance and repair...

Or perhaps they did, and this is what happened...

Either way, probably the most incompetent Government in history.

Arthurian Legend railed against more overbearing and incompetent Labour (mal-)administration of housing in the People's Republic of Islington on Sunday: read it here.

Inspired by these guys here.

Good tailoring of the Labour Do Not Do to our borough. Although we can partly hold the LibDems guilty as well.

In fairness to the People's Republic of Islington the slum in St Paul's Road that you illustrate has not significantly changed its appearance since Callaghan was PM and I used to pass it every day.

Crikey, "it's been bad for 30 years so that's OK". Do hope you're not a defence counsel, Islingtonian.

(Just checked - publishing industry...Journalist? Writer? Editor?)

Actually, I wonder who owns it. Surely a bit of cash to be made by buying it up and giving it a bit (OK, a lot) of a refurb...?

One thing's for sure, the place in the photo isn't council. What would you suggest - legally compelling the private owner to do it up?

No, I would not demand that the state abrogate to itself the right to force owners of private property to paint their houses.

But it is very curious why it has been allowed by someone to degrade in this way...I wonder who precisely does own it, and what the story is?
