Newmania has sparked off a heated discussion with the publication of his discovery of overtly racialist recruitment policies of Islington Local Education Authority.
The perceived problem is the lack of male role models for young black boys. Islington LEA's proposed solution is to create 40 places on a teaching assistant training course. For black men only. So, racist AND sexist. Way to go, Islington Council...
The subject puts me in mind of a book that I heard about a few years ago: Ten Things You Can't Say in America. Its author, Larry Elder, has confronted policies like this head-on. Needless to say, it has not made him terribly popular amongst some from his own 'community'.
The Cato Institute quotes Elder as saying, "“America’s number-one problem is children, who cannot feed, clothe, and educate a child, having children.”
Newmania offers his own answer to this type of problem in the UK: "The answer to fatherless homes is to stop paying people to have fatherless children, not offer them further inducements."
I wonder what would be on the list for a new edition of Larry's book, The Ten Things You Can't Say in Britain..?
Arthurian Legend
"Once back here I got to thinking - 'how do I get out of this?'
Perhaps the really haunting spectre is that I would have to turn my back on the lake, and the prospect of the sword."

You know I`m not religiously against political correctness which is a bit of a dog eared target. Most of the things you can`t say I don`t want to say. The N word leaps to mind which I avoid , also racially derogatory terms in general.I don1`t pick on gays , except for fun. I annoy women , but only becaus they like it.
I have been regularly deleted from Guido however which takes some doing.
The state doesn`t censor you as much as you censor yourself and allow others to do it for you.
What do you make of Nick Boles then KA I see you like Policy Exchange of which he is a Director I thin?
Rumouir is that he asbdrioped out of the mayoral race. I must say this is good thing he isn`t right for it and would not survive the hurly burly .
He`ll get a nice seat in Surrey soon enough
Political correctness seems to incorporate strictures that have their origin in both Marxist-inspired curtailments on freedom of speech (as a tool of the oppressor class), and simple politeness. It is therefore a difficult one to be absolutely categorical about.
The more one can back up one's controversial statements with unimpeachable fact, the braver one feels in taking on those who are simply parroting a line for the glow of self-righteousness.
As for Boles, I'm not sure that Surrey can continue to expand indefinitely to accomodate all Tory boys who want a safe seat. Still, he's one of your more credible challengers,so rejoice!
so rejoice!
Your creditable challengers ? What team do you bat for then my medieaval chum ?
Facts , BTW are the enemy of truth , you can always find facts to back up what you think its a matter of the time you are prepared to spend.
(Its Don quixote somewhere and a good point I`ve found)
Hmmm now I `m really curious . new "Force of conservatism" eh.
you must be in the Party surely ?
Why put off the inevitable .
WHO ARE YOU
The fog on the lake will clear in time...
Are all these Newmanias the same Newmania?

Ha ha Nicely done KA Defra ..now theres an organisation in need of some Medieaval punishment. Ignore the anonymong , its probably a six year old girl playing with daddy`s `pooter
Things you can't say in Britain:
- Who cares what Jade said to Shilpa
- The NHS is a stupid idea
- Just because global warming is a problem, doesn't mean we need to ask thick lefties for the solution
Here bl***y here, Serf!
How would you go about addressing the lack of positive male role models for young black boys, then? Or would you rather they grew up to shoot each other and mug you...?

"How would you go about addressing the lack of positive male role models for young black boys, then?"
Why should it be 'us' that addresses that problem? How about the so-called 'black community' doing a bit of work on it for a change?
Last week over the Catholic adoption agency row, the Labour government in effect said that the state should be entitled to force religious-based charities to obey state-mandated 'non-discrimination' laws, even if it contravened the charity's own religious beliefs.
This was to apply, even where there were good pragmatic grounds for allowing the agency to continue its work unhindered by the government.
And now it is OK for another part of the state to discriminate on 'pragmatic' grounds...
The PC brigade can't have it both ways...
JuliaM: it sounds to me like the 40 black chaps signing up to be teaching assistants would be members of the 'black community' doing their bit, no?
Arthur: there are certain well-legally-defined situations in which vacancies can be restricted to people of particular genders/ethnic groups - so rape crisis helplines are allowed to hire women, and theatres are allowed to hire old white men to play Lear. This would seem obviously to fit with those exemptions.

Yes indeed: 'How did you get your job, Daddy?' 'I got it just because I'm black...oh, and don't forget, colour doesn't matter in life, it's what you do that's important. There's no discrimination in the UK!'
Yes, they'll have fun when it gets to telling the kiddywinks about MLK's life. Wonder if they'll be able to keep a straight face...?
